While partaking of a McRib extra value meal on a cold, rainy evening, the Chief Mötley Web Sürfer wondered why he could no longer fill his belly with a fried apple pie from McDonald's. The initial e-mail and subsequent response this deep thought inspired are shown below. Long live the fried apple pie!

Dear Sirs:

I've been a loyal McDonald's customer and enthusiast since childhood, and (for better or worse) your products have become an integral part of my diet. Your restaurants consistly meet my high standards for the complete fast-food dining experience.

With that in mind, I was hoping you could provide me with some insight as to why McDonald's has seemingly abandoned the popular fried apple pie in favor of the baked version. For years I have searched for my beloved fried apple pie at various McDonald's restaurants across the United States only to come up empty. If the McRib and the Shamrock Shake can make comebacks, why not give the fried apple pie a chance to regain its glory?

Sincerely,

Chief Mötley Web Sürfer

Here's the reply, which I might add came promptly the morning of the next business day.

Hello Chief Mötley Web Sürfer:

Thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's. I appreciate having this opportunity to share some information with you regarding McDonald's menu.

I'm sorry you're disappointed in our baked apple pie. You may be interested to know that approximately 90% of McDonald's restaurants currently serve baked apple pies. However, there are, in fact, a few restaurants that still serve our fried apple pies. Due to space constraints, most of our restaurants located in shopping malls and Wal*Mart department stores were unable to fit the baking oven required to prepare baked apple pies in the kitchen area. Therefore, these locations continue to serve our fried apple pies.

While there aren't any immediate plans to re-introduce the fried apple pie to our standard menu, please be assured that your feedback is very important to us. I've shared your comments with our Menu Management team for their on-going review.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's. We look forward to serving you again soon under the Golden Arches.

And there you have it. Get your butt out of that chair and start finding McDonald's restaurants that still serve up the fried pocket with the fruity filling.
